Portovenere

Portovenere, a colorful village overlooking the Gulf of La Spezia...

This beautiful seaside village, not far from the Cinque Terre National Park is a part of the Unesco World Heritage Site.

It offers a small historic center, full of shops and restaurants where you can spend pleasant hours enjoying unique views in the world.

We suggest you to visit the small Church of San Pietro, built on the extreme tip of the village, the 12th-century Castle, the Sanctuary of the White Madonna and the Byron Cave, where the English poet used to go to get inspiration for his poems.

For trekking lovers there is a very beautiful excursion that connects the village of Portovenere to the seafarer of Riomaggiore. For more info...Hiking Trails Portovenere

In front of Portovenere we find  three islands Palmaria, Tino and Tinetto, which certainly represent the beating heart of the Porto Venere Regional Natural Park.

They can be reached by boat, for more info Three Islands Excursion tour

From our 4 * Hotel Grande Albergo in Sestri Levante we advise you to reach Portovenere by public transport as the road to get there by car is very narrow and busy, especially during the summer season, as follows:

  • Use the public boat of the "Servizio Marittimo del Tigullio" shipping company which leaves directly from the Sestri Levante pier, about 400 meters from our hotel.

The tour includes a 1 hour stop in Monterosso and 3 hours in Portovenere, the return is expected in the late afternoon. For more information Excursion to Portovenere

  • Use the train from Sestri Levante to La Spezia, once you arrive, walk to the La Spezia port and board the "Golfo dei Poeti" shipping company which will take you directly to Portovenere. If you would like to continue your excursion you can go to the Cinque Terre Park with possible stops in Riomaggiore, Manarola, Vernazza and Monterosso)...For more info Boat to Portovenere and Cinque Terre

As an alternative, arriving in La Spezia by train, in case of bad weather, there is the bus that leaves directly from the station and will take you to Portovenere in about 1 hour. For more info... Bus to Portovenere
