“Sestri Levante, a pearl between two bays”

Located at the south-east of the Gulf of Tigullio the town of Sestri Levante enchants with its wonderful location: between the bay renamed by Christian Andersen "Bay of Fables" and the "Bay of Silence".

In Sestri Levante you can find the sport wave on wave, the free climbing on the rock of Riva Trigoso, the night in the "budello", the folklore of festivals and events that color the streets of the city, the fascinating natural port between hills of olive trees and Mediterranean scrub called Portobello, and the beautiful promontory of Punta Manara.

For nature lovers, Sestri Levante is the perfect starting point for the excursions: from the sites of Punta Manara and Punta Baffe, from which you can enjoy a breathtaking view over the entire Gulf of Tigullio, to the remains Romanesque church of Sant’Anna, passing through the Natural Park of Portofino and then reaching the charming villages of the Cinque Terre Park, easily reachable both by train and by boat, during the summer season, with departures from the tourist port of Sestri Levante.

A lot of events are held throughout the year such as the Blues and Soul Festival, the "Johann Sebastian Bach" National Piano Competition, the Andersen Prize literary competition dedicated to reading for children and teenagers,  the suggestive Barcarolata, the last Sunday of July, parade of boats with prizes for the most imaginatively decorated boat, the Bagnun festival, last weekend of July,in Riva Trigoso, with free distribution of the  typical local dish consisting of fresh sardines and tomatoes placed on bread galettes.

For art and culture lovers it is advisable to visit religious buildings such as the suggestive Church of San Nicolò which dominates the Bay of Silence, the Santa Maria di Nazareth Basilic, and the Convent of the Capuchin Friars where you can admire the nativity scene perennial. Also recommended is a visit to Palazzo Fascie, current seat of the city library and of the Archeological Museum, to the Rizzi Art Gallery, and to Palazzo Cambiaso, current seat of the Municipality, often home to exhibitions and events.

Also this year Sestri Levante is confirmed as the Blue Flag, an award that is awarded on the basis of very strict guiding criteria such as the sea having been excellent in the last four years, large pedestrian areas, cycle paths, well-kept street furniture and green areas. In addition to the criteria indicated, the quality of the hotels present, tourist information and environmental education are also considered.

Of course, shopping is also a must: not only all the boutiques and shops in the historical center of Sestri Levante will make your heart beat faster, but the Brugnato Outlet and the Serravalle Designer Outlet are also within easy reach.
